Usugrow started drawing in 1993 by creating punk rock flyers. Now, as well as still being hugely successful as a commercial designer for album covers, fashion brands & skate companies, the Japanese-born artist has been exhibiting his fine art in galleries all over the world and his black and white illustrations have become instantly recognizable. Heavily influenced by Los Angeles 'Cholo' style graffiti fused with the spiritual skills of Asian calligraphy. In his work he very often beautifully portrays opposing elements such as delicate lines and unique lettering style, skulls and flowers, yin and yang and of course his palette of black and white,. He believes that this is everyday life and living proof that these opposing elements can exist together.

Original Cultures - The Show' Stolen Space
In collaboration with Original Cultures, a new international non-profit cultural and arts initiative, StolenSpace presents an exclusive exhibition of new works from famed European artists Ericailcane (Italy), DEM (Italy) and Will Barras (UK)

This exhibition will form part of the Original Cultures London 2010 event and run from February 12th until March 7th. This will be the trio’s second collaborative project following their work during Original Cultures’ first event in Bologna, Italy, in June 2009 which saw them create an exclusive animation and shadow-based installation. As visiting guests, Ericailcane and DEM will take the lead bringing to StolenSpace a collection of brand new paintings and other media. Will Barras meanwhile will be exhibiting a new animation and associated designs he is producing exclusively for the show. Together these three artists have received worldwide acclaim in recent years, exhibiting from Los Angeles to Sweden via Hong Kong and Eastern Europe.t
Exclusive to the exhibition will be the release of a limited edition collaborative screen print by the three artists and printed by StolenSpace, as well as a series of 6 picture discs produced by Original Cultures and featuring art from Will Barras, Ericailcane and DEM and music from Om Unit (UK), Tatsuki (JP) and Tayone (IT), the three musicians involved in the OriginalCultures project. These picture discs, six 10”s, will be framed and sold with a separate 7” featuring two exclusive tracks from each musician. These discs,combining visual arts and music in a rather unique package, are exclusive to the exhibition.

Green Day Presents: 'The Art of Rock' Curated By Logan Hicks
In November 2008 the seed for the Green Day Art Project was planted. The concept was to choose eighteen international artists to informally collaborate with GreenDay. Each artist would receive lyrics to one of the songs from the soon to be released 21st Century Breakdown.Then they would produce a piece of art that was influenced, or inspired by the lyrics of the song. Although the artists had the lyrics, they did not have the music that accompanied the words.The results from that collaboration are presented in this show.

Miss Van at Stolen Space
If you're out and about on the first Thursday Art Train tomorrow, Miss Van is the one to see. Get on down to Stolen Space at the Truman Brewery, Oct 1st from 6.30pm. Show runs until the 18th Oct.
Toulouse native and current Barcelona resident Miss Van started to paint her graffiti on the streets during the 90s, at the age of 18. Her overtly feminine street art was a breath of fresh air in a traditionally masculine movement of urban art and paved the way for many contemporaries. Now her infamous sultry female characters, known as her ‘Poupes’, are seen on the streets and in galleries alike all over the world.
From these pouting, sulky girls emerges a certain sensuality and disconcerting eroticism that is frank and unabashed. Their thoughts are palpable and the paintings become real in both flesh and spirit. Miss Van creates her characters with an innovative spirit. Affirming her style, the artist infuses into her work traits from her own personality, rendering them thus, self-portraits. It is through their fantasy that the sensitivity and fragility of the artist is expressed. She takes pleasure in playing with ambiguities, her dolls are childlike women that are equally angelic and devilish. They have a rare appeal that transcends gender-an appeal that also extends to the work that she shows in galleries.
Over the years, Miss Van’s characters keep evolving. They have become less cute and more dangerously alluring, edgier - their sexy aura made all the more complex by their increasingly ambiguous facial expressions. The more she has moved into gallery work and can work with the nuances of more fragile media than the streets allow (pencil, for one), her characters have grown even more sensitive, subtle, and delicately rendered.
Featuring a retrospective of her work & new paintings this show will also see the release of a rare exclusive hand pulled limited edition screen print from Miss Van.

Alexone, Pas Pieds Show 7 at Stolen Space
French Artist Alexone shows his latest work over at DFace's East London leading contemporary urban gallery, Stolen Space. From August 21st.
‘Pas Pied. Show 7’ opening at the StolenSpace Gallery on the 21st August will showcase new works by renowned French graffiti artist Alexone. This much anticipated solo show will feature paintings in spraypaint and acrylic on paper and canvas. This show will also see the release of a new screen print hand pulled by the artist.
Born In 1976 Alexone now lives and works in Paris. Coming from a graffiti background he rose to fame in the early 90’s with his striking letter-based tags (under the name of Oedipe - Oedipus) appearing on the streets of Paris. Since then his distinctive work has won him a reputation far beyond France and exhibitions all over Europe, among them Paris, Hamburg, Milan, Berlin, Amsterdam and Brussels. Alexöne regularly collaborates with other urban artists, among them members of the GM and 9e Concept groups. With whom he exhibited in a group show in the Pompidou Centre in January this year.
The humans or animals that figure in Alexöne’s work are often humorous and playful, his bright colours, eccentric characters and hilarious scenes easily provoking laughter. He also likes to include lots of references and curious associations of ideas, generating a real sense of closeness between the artist and the viewer who gets the point. Yet Alexöne’s work offers more than pictorial humour. A closer look reveals a grave unease, this excess of crazy jokes, disguises, contortions and fantastical animals inducing a sense of obscure disturbance. This ambivalence of humour and unease is a crucial element of the work, provoking in the viewer a questioning that leaves a lasting impression.
Alexone’s first book “Came A Yeux” (Drugs For The Eyes) was published last year by Kitchen 93. Signed copies of which will be on sale throughout the exhibition.
